An Unexpected Surprise
Taking my dog out for a walk the other day, I couldn’t help but to noticed this frozen air pocket that caught my eye. I reach in my pocket and pulled out my camera. My mind started racing as to all the different ways I could make this image into an interesting cartoon character. For an example I could make it into a young character, having big mouse ears, wearing a hat, and be dragging a toy or blanket. Another idea is one with cat ears, also wearing a hat, and its tail would have a few bows tied on to it. It’s fun to go out a find something new and interesting to inspire oneself.
Architecture
Looking at old buildings is one of my favorite pass times. I just admire looking at them and seeing all the different designs on them. The first time I stopped and really took a look at architecture was one day when my mother suggested for me to watch a movie. She told me that she loved the details within the woodwork and how long ago, people would carve all of this detail by hand. After viewing the movie and seeing her point of view, it opened my eyes to admiring the detail made throughout history within our homes and within the architecture of buildings.
The buildings that I enjoy seeing the most have old writing on them that is slowly aging off. For example, some have the names of banks on them but they are no longer banks but rather another form of business (like a law firm). There is this building in my town that has round windows in it, how often do you see round windows in a building (aren’t they usually on boats)? Here within my photograph taken from a trip last summer to the Mayo Clinic, it’s just one breathing taking detail to the next.
Something about architecture that I have learned about is that, when looking at churches, have you ever noticed how on some windows they have pointed arches? This Gothic style symbolized the spiritual escape, which would explain why it’s a commonly found style among churches. But here within this picture, we see more of the rounded arches (of course, it not a church either). I think that all of these styles create such a neat effect and quite an interesting piece of our history. Each building has a unique story to its design - helping us understand where it all started from. It's sad that we don't see such workmanship being continued today as much. Instead, we see new forms of architecture - amazing us all-the-more!
